WORDGOBLIN is an online depository for the writings of Richy McAllister, a self professed book eater, daydream writer and nasty wee word goblin.
Mission Statement
In primary three I asked my teacher if my seat could be moved to the isolated corner table at the back of the class so that between assignments I could work on my novel about dragons. In a move that I can now reflect on as pedagogically questionable, she agreed. Her unwavering support of creative writing is the spirit which I attempted to honour within the pages this blog. Forget the syllabus – you go write about dragons, you strange child, you.
Writing Style
I like silly. I like when animals talk and when people with beards shoot magic from their hands. I like when the absurd and the mundane are put in a hadron collider and are smashed into each other at a billion miles an hour. I like sweetness and sincerity and discreet truths that take a watchful eye to notice. I like detail – unnecessary detail. Baroque or broke. And I like that stories are like little holidays for your brain because fiction isn’t escapism; it’s tourism.
